88. The Wisdom of China
It is not the first time China has shown her wisdom to the rest of the world by taking a step backwards. Something which cannot be said for the Rulers of Zimbabwe. China has the intelligence to admit something can be done to improve relationships with Tibet, and in this case I believe in their honesty, not because I believe Chinese rulers are any better than Zimbabwe rulers, given the chance they would trample all over Tibet as they have done so far, but because I think Chinese rulers are incapable of betraying their young people.
It is apparent that looking at these Chinese demonstrators in favour of the Olympics Flame, it is impossible to let them down. It is impossible to hide the truth from them and in this case the Chinese are acting like caring parents wanting to give their young ones a fair chance in life... The Chinese Rulers are prepared to take a step backwards so that those, their young people will in future host the Olympics for themselves one day and not be prevented from receiving that honour simply because their fathers sent the Dalai Lama into exile and would not talk with him in a profitable manner! Indeed, talking to the Dalai Lama, in spite they think he is a wolf in sheep clothing (which makes me laugh) is all to the advantage of a brighter future for the Chinese young people because they will have gained the respect from the rest of the world. After all, when one country, and that does not by a long shot mean only China, abuses the Human Rights of others, the rest of us see RED. And we protest against what we consider an injustice just as the Chinese youth did against what they considered an injustice- and they seemed to do it with much gusto too. (for those not much into the Italianized form of “gusto”, it means “enthusiasm”)
What really impressed me about these young Chinese demonstrators was that they were fighting tooth and nail in defence of the Flame or China since both seem that have almost become synonyms. I was glad of this because at least they have experienced what it is to demonstrate for what one believes in and realize that demonstrations are not “evil” or “disgusting” as their leaders have so claimed. I am glad that they have had the same experience of those who live in a “free” world, that to demonstrate is part and parcel of the rights to those who belong to the family of man. Here in the west we are considering of protecting rights for animals too- this may come as a shock to the Chinese since they have not digested the fact that human beings have inborn rights- just imagine if we put pressure on them to consider those of animals too- That I suppose will be the next protest against the flame, next time round in China, if ever it returns to China! That depen
Actually, I was quite surprised to see the Chinese students demonstrate because I thought news and internet were not filtering to the common folk, and perhaps it is not, and these demonstrators have thronged together because they live in that same country the flame was passing through as in Japan and Australia. But being interviewed in Japan, one Chinese demonstrator said, she came there from China to support the flame, so news of what is happening in the rest of the world is getting through to normal people in China. In effect, a friend of a friend of mine who has just come back from China said that although people are poor, if you go inside their huts you will find a computer in full working order and with an internet connection: Wow! I wonder if my blog has been given free access there!
This is the guy the Chinese want their youth to think is a wolf in sheep's clothing! Well, some people still think fairy tales are real. |
