74. EXPO-Italy: Winning Theme: Feeding the Planet and Life Friendly Power Resources

When I saw the present Left Wing Foreign Minister, Massimo D’Alema, embrace the Right Wing Mayor of Milan, Letizia Moratti, their sheer enthusiasm and jubilation which, could not be masqueraded, was oozing out from even the pores of their ears, I felt that perhaps this time “Newsweek” had got it right.

A day or so ago “Newsweek” said that Left and Right Wing Leaders were to form a coalition in order for Italy to be governed successfully. A chorus of “Only those who win will govern” from both sides immediately followed that article. Then this- Italy will host the 2015 EXPO with the theme Feeding the Planet and Life Friendly Power Resources which was made possible only because both Right and Left worked their asses off in persuading the 85 nations that voted in favour of Italy to do so.

This meant that the Radical Emma Bonino worked on the Middle East Ladies, the ex-Communist, Penati secured the vote of Cuba, The Right Wing Formigoni goes back and forth to the Philippines and fished out the Kenyan vote at the last minute, the Socialist Bobo Craxi after an anguishing Sunday afternoon when all hope was lost, obtains the Syrian vote... the Mayor of Milan, the great star of this feat, pops off to London to overwhelm the Nobel Peace Winner Al Gore, winning his support. And even the President of Italy himself wrote a letter to the Egyptian Mubarak for his vote- which made all the difference... All of whom promised, an ambulance here, a school there, sick to be treated in Milan’s hospitals and so on... All this goes to prove that you don’t have to be big to be great!

Now, that’s what I call team work- but ask them to govern together- over their dead bodies!

And that, I guess, is how it should be.
