77. A Description
If I were to describe in my picture how I write...
*******************************************************************************
When we consider how strong, powerful and at times arrogant,
some women have become-
some women have become-
can we not wonder how it is still possible to apply the gentle candy
colour of pink to femininity?
colour of pink to femininity?
*******************************************************************************
75. Home
Home is the place where you go because they have to let you in.
******************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Year after year the world reproduces its splendours-
Surely the earth
alone cannot do all this unaided?
******************************************************************************************************************
Let's go and play and wander through rugged fields awhile.
************************************************************************************************************************
72. Natural Pesticide
I've armed myself well against this year's onslaught of mosquitoes by getting some anti-mosquitoes incense geraniums...
However, not for you if you don't like church, they give out a strong smell of incense.
*********************************************************************************************
71. Making it Fit
My old lap-top has given up the ghost so I got a "Vivo Book" i.e. Live Book- a mix of Board and PC, fits easily into a medium sized handbag-
But like new shoes I have to break it in.
*********************************************************************************
70. Thought for Food
This is what I had for lunch from my "Easy to Make" menus.
Consider
There are as many calories in that small side plate of fried potatoes that there are in the whole main plate.
Of course, I ate the chips as well, that's why I am not losing any flab.
*********************************************************************************
I wish there was pleasure in eating less.
A fight to the last crumb
But food is like sex- the more you eat the more you want-
And the consequences are not great.
*********************************************************************************
Rain not always is dreary.
It often gleams like diamonds on petals
*********************************************************************************
The light today reminds me of the bleating sun in
English skies.
*********************************************************************************
I don't wash up everyday...
I wash up when the sink is full.
*********************************************************************************
When it's hot I tend to sleep more during the day...
but then in the cool black hours of the night,
I listen to the silence of the world.
*********************************************************************************
Falling in love is a kind of madness...
It blinds you to all things except the object of your desire.
*********************************************************************************
Our minds are more often than not concentrated on what is near...
Seldom do we look afar and see that vast horizon which lies beyond.
*********************************************************************************
62. Clouds
Be careful of turning your back on clouds. Next time you look- they may no longer be there-
Just like any one thing of beauty... for that matter.
*********************************************************************************
'Tis the close of day.
Time to blow kisses from heaven.
*********************************************************************************
59. Setting the record straight
The Pope knows,
The Queen of England knows,
yet when they meet they pretend otherwise...
Westminster Cathedral - London
But even a school child who can read a history book knows
that the Church of England does not have its Apostolic Succession from Jesus Christ, but from King Henry VIII .
********************************************************************************
The Coptic faith can rightfully claim Apostolic succession from their founder, Saint Mark.
However, the Coptic church have overlooked one minor detail which makes all the difference...
St. Peter's, Vatican
Jesus did not choose Mark as head of the Church-
So why the dickens is there a
Coptic Pope?
********************************************************************************
Whitney Houston was a beautiful talented woman
that God created
A local cemetery
to be reduced to human lather by man?
********************************************************************************
I gathered some wild flowers in memory of my Mum:
daisies, forget-me-nots, cyclamen, white and blue creatures- for which I have no name.
********************************************************************************
My Dad used to say he was
most impressed by what his parish priest, back in the 1900s often preached during Lent namely: death.
A modern priest conducting the choir
The priest would perch himself up in the pulpit, as
there were no microphones in those days, and said at the top of his voice: "Remember
we all have to die... maybe even I."
********************************************************************************
While most of Italy struggles under the snow, it's selfish of me to say this, but then I must as all of my doggies agree....
Snow makes the world magical!
*********************************************************************************
Atheists think because they are not Catholics they will burn in hell for ever.
Not true!
It's just that Catholics queue up to get out first.
*********************************************************************************
This should never have happened.
It did so because of stupid people in charge.
Choose your leaders well!
*********************************************************************************
Distancing yourself from internet does not bring you closer to God:
Just as taking a Missionary out from the field does.
*********************************************************************************
I'm going to make my hair upon my head shine bright today,
which does not necessarily mean
they cover anything sparkling inside.
*********************************************************************************
Now that it is Autumn, I often listen to the leaves falling,
making sounds of unseen footsteps
moving quietly so as not to disturb.
*********************************************************************************
Heaven is a bit like Internet, we can't see it...
But we know it's there.
*********************************************************************************
46. Life is...
This picture was taken sometime back when all the kitties were a part of this household- now one has gone missing- this time for good.
So I gathered life is
a continuous giving and taking away of affections
*********************************************************************************
Gheddafi was not executed, he was butchered to death, then placed in a butcher's freezer where the carcasses of animals are kept frozen.
What future can there be for a country which will be ruled by people who have put on show their capacity for such barbaric actions?
*********************************************************************************
I surprised myself, in spite of my muscular inflammation I could waltz around the floor with a broomstick- full of ease.
What I found more surprising was how easily men could be substituted.... that's not nice at all!
*********************************************************************************
There is an abundance of wealth in the world in spite of what they say about the economic crises- the problem is it's in the hands of only a few.
It would do these tycoons well to spread their wealth around positively- I don't mean give it away, but make it work for the common good- after all money can create their hell on earth and then...
"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven..."
Quote by Jesus Christ and duly reported by the journalists Matthew and Mark round about middle of the 1st Century A.D.
Now... if He had said an elephant....
Now... if He had said an elephant....
*********************************************************************************
42. The Digging did it for Me
For days I've been down and out,
so I decided to do what people in the old days used to do,
they never seemed depressed...
I went to dig up some manure too!
*********************************************************************************
It is not a mistake if a child is born.
But an act of the Creator.
So please, do not call it
overpopulation.
(NB The photo of these children was taken years ago- now they are grown-up)

Green Landscape with pond 1 October 2007 Acrylic on canvas 40x30 cm by Eva Ulian
The pond lies beyond the foliage as if enfolded by the overlapping hills...
What need is there for sadness when unschooled beauty reflects into our minds?
*********************************************************************************
Stick close to the infirm and poor...
They will guide you to the
Pearly Gates.
**********************************************************************************
Those who hate the Pope do so because they can't erase that he is the direct successor of Peter.
Well now, I say unto you:
Be appeased,
Nay be consoled...
The Pope has now come down to our level-
He speaks the language of Twitter.
**********************************************************************************
If only, even for a moment
we could find that inner peace within ourselves
Then the rest of the world will fall into place.
**********************************************************************************
Twilight: people are getting ready for a smashing time-
all cracked up: body, soul, head, genitals.
I'm one of the lucky few,
taking furry creatures great and small
for walkies.
What about you?
**********************************************************************************
It was the time of apples
ripening on trees,
and leaves changing to a deeper green,
when shadows drew their full lengths
across the August paths:
there was a subdued change
upon the fiery sun
that heralded September,
and in my soul there was a void,
I missed someone.
The rosy petals lying limp
upon the dying thorns:
the streams gasped in thirst
upon their dusty beds,
the birth of spring was dead
and counted days came to an end,
and through my mind
there passed a thought
a deaf remembrance.
© Eva Ulian September 1972
No, no, no... I should never have posted a poem
on "My Picture of the Day"
But I just had to use the picture.
**********************************************************************************
I must agree, the later years have given me so much
to be thankful for
that often it makes up for the many ailments that may come from the wear and tear of our human structure.
**********************************************************************************
The best thing which can be said about poetry,
looking at it from my unfavourable eyes:
is that while the people are engaged in the writing of it,
it stops them from getting into mischief.
**********************************************************************************
Poems should be read one at a time...
A long distance apart-
So you can ignore this one.
**********************************************************************************
31. Not Poetry Again...
If you ask me to read your poetry,
do so not because you wrote it;
but because it means something to me.
Find a way to persuade me to glance at it.
Otherwise I shall just ask:
Why should I read it?
And that is exactly what you too are about to say with my poem...
Indeed, why should you read it?
**********************************************************************************
The problem with poetry is that there are too many of them...
There are poems everywhere.
And what do people do? They become indifferent.
Because like eating cream cakes all the time
they long for something different...
A piece of roast.
**********************************************************************************
The moon in her diamond white
reigns
sole patron of the night
*********************************************************************************
If you have fallen out with the Lord....
Try one of His peons.
**********************************************************************************
There is endless copying of other people's work on the web.
When it happens to you-
do not feel cheated
Consider yourself as a source of inspiration.
****************************************************************
If you do not want other people's adverse reaction sting you-
ignore them.
Just like nettles...
once cut off
they lose their sting.
****************************************************************
25. Left or Right
People often ask me if I am left or right wing
I am both and neither....
Painting: Westminster by Eva Ulian
I just fight tooth and nail for those who try to do
a good job
*****************************************************************
24. Just for Today
Had this picture taken to prove that me and donkeys
lived today...
Just for today
**********************************************************
23. Flowers and Tears
Flowers were created to relieve
thoughts of unhappiness.
**********************************************************
Stop a while and consider your favourite flower, from the humble daisy to the magnificent Bird of Paradise.
Once you have made your choice, find out what meaning is attributed to that flower and you will know then why you like it, because it resembles you.
**************************************************
21. Topsy-Turvy World
The world has become topsy-turvy;
snow falling on our mountain tops
while cherries ripen on trees,
in the valley below.
**********************************************************
***********************************************************
Due to my muscle inflammation,
it took three people to get me up from
the dentist's chair this morning.
"This is a disaster!" I said laughing my head off
at the incongruity of the situation
which quickly wiped the tragic look of pity
from their faces.
*********************************************************
I wanted to capture spring on my camera, but if perchance
life deals you a bluff and find
you cannot do as well what once you could:
your attempt is worth far more
than any ones you ever did before...
Even if the result is somewhat flawed.
**********************************************************
Today is the 1st day of spring, this is how I celebrated it:
Eavesdropping into some wild, weird, wonderful
conversation
*********************************************************
16. Photo Philosophy
A real photographer takes photos of life in action
even if this means having to pay the price of
quality-
But then who wants to see photos of people always
posing?
***********************************************************
15. Out of the Depths
Music, dancing, singing have often deterred one from crashing into the depths of misery
***********************************************************
We should not be too eager to present our
Western model for family life to those in the East
After all, every time the dishwasher breaks down,
everything goes to pots.
***********************************************************
If you are not using Internet, you will get left behind. It really is not all that difficult, just needs one or two precautions.
I Went out and left my pc on. When I returned a notice flashed on the screen to tell me the emergency saving of data was completed successfully-
Next time, no more cats in house!
************************************************************
12. Poets in the Making
When people died and people married they told me to write a poem, put me on a chair and read it out loud, with expression, under a large paraffin lamp since there was no electricity.
It was then, I realized I was a born con man.
*************************************************************
I have seen a number of faces,
before and after death...
The one after death
is much to be preferred.
************************************************************
10. Treasures
It may very well do us good to sometimes think
like animals do.
Even the proud kitties prefer the welcoming embrace
of a cardboard box
than a basket full of jewels.
*************************************************************
9. Fraying
We come to the end of our tether when what we wanted
has been thwarted.
Reverse the tables and desire what is more accessible.
At the end of the day, what is really at stake is
your peace of mind.
*************************************************************
8. Blogging
No matter how free the Press is, their truth is always bound to the sale of copies: so how can truth not be distorted? How can it not be either exaggerated or underrated?
For this bloggers were created- not only to be the keel of credibility but bring to the forefront those events of daily living which would otherwise be ignored.
*************************************************************
7. Shoes
Those who have, want more
but...
Do I really need more shoes?
*************************************************************
6. Light
A desk lamp...
Is not the only Light.
*************************************************************
5. Who's in Charge?
There's an Italian saying I'm fond of:
Non si muove una foglia se Dio non voglia...
No leaf moves without God willing it
*************************************************************************
4. Those Blues Again
We all get depressed and that is a state only you can cure...
You either take pills to make you even more benumbed
or...
You can get up, scrub floors
do the washing up
take a run
dance with the broomstick
phone someone
talk to your cat, dog, canary...
clean your shoes
change the bedclothes
dig up the weeds...
or
go and see a rainbow.
*************************************************************************
3. Enjoy Life
Cats do not chase wolves.
Fretting for what you cannot achieve only disperses precious energy which should be employed for what you can achieve
*************************************************************************
2. The Task
We were all born with a mission,
but often times, it is hidden from view...
So you must need search for it, which once found
set out zealously to accomplish it
as if you were the most important person in the world...
because you are.
*************************************************************************
1. True Riches
We came into the world with nothing.
We will leave it with nothing.
But the wealth accumulated by the mind, heart and soul's
bank account,
bank account,
you take with you.
************************************************************************
