65. Kissinger and Mao Typescripts

Wonderful China:
some of its Leaders- less so

While washing the kitchen floor the other day, I heard on Italian television that typescripts of Kissinger and Mao’s telephone conversations had been uncovered. Of course they were not disclosing anything regarding state secrets as one would suppose these two gentlemen would engage their conversation upon. Now, what would one imagine powerful men talk about when they presume no one is listening? Women of course. The conversation revolved around the uselessness, or rather the stumbling block that women were to the progress of a Nation. Mao, the Chinese Dictator of those years was complaining to Kissinger, the then, considered even more powerful figure than the US President, that his problem in China were the women- there were too many of them and they caused a mess everywhere they went as they kept producing children. Mao then, jokingly or otherwise threatened to send hordes of them to the United States so they could create a mess over there too and see how he (Kissinger) liked it.

I’m rather curious about these typescripts and perhaps should chase up those who have access to them to hear more... On the other hand perhaps it’s better to let by-gones be by-gones and let the powers that be bury their shame with them. Maybe one day there’ll be a woman President at the White House, and perhaps the conversation will be more enlightening.
