31. Desecrating the Memory of Meredith

The slaughtering of Catholics began with Henry VIII who not only chopped off some of his wives’ heads but those of prominent Catholics like his Lord Chancellor, Sir Thomas More incarnated by Richard Burton in the film “A Man for all Seasons” which brings me to his eldest daughter who, being the daughter of Catherine of Aragon and a Catholic, when she in turn became queen of England retaliated, and chopped off the heads of any protestant in sight, gaining for herself the reputation of “Bloody Mary”.
We all know in the Anglo-Saxon world that a “bloody Mary” is now referred to a drink of tomato juice with vodka but what has all this to do with desecrating the memory of Meredith, one may well ask. The morning before last I heard the radio say that some students or other go around the night clubs and pubs in Perugia ordering a “Bloody Meredith”. Meredith may not have worn a halo around her head, but she certainly did not deserve to have her throat slashed, no matter who she knew or what she did.
I have a haunch that those who go around ordering such drinks are drug pushers in disguise who, so as not to lose their markets by students who after this misdoing are having second thoughts as whether it is worth to continue poisoning their brains or not, these pushers are now trying to play down the whole thing by making a joke of it, taking away the edge of monstrosity thus bringing the slashing of the throat of another individual into the parameters of normality.
That is why as Meredith is no longer here physically, I urge her spirit to take revenge and make all those who order a drink in her name, to choke on their own vomit.
Perhaps that’s why I abandoned the cloister- I had too much of a thirst for justice!
