254. Carnival of Vittorio Veneto: No.2 The Opening

There were twirls and swirls from the rainbow coloured tulle costumes of the dancers,  accompanied by the sound of passionate notes of vivacious Latin American music.  They advanced forward, slowly yet wildly and determined, thus the “Centro Danza” the amature sports association of Conegliano opened the Carnival of Vittorio Veneto introducing the long and intense row of floating carts that followed.

The dancers were followed by the baby-nursery of a near-by town, Pollicino, who all dressed in blue decided to bring the real babies along too.

Next, The Band of Cappella Maggiore from our neighbouring parish, who have often accompanied our ceremonies decorously with their music, and frankly I had never seen them dressed up like this before... convicts.

After which came our parish of Sarmede who brought along a huge donkey.  Naturally the donkey was accompanied by witches, faries, rabbits, nuns, Red Riding hood and a few other characters from tales of old.  I will lavish a few photos on this otherwise, the village folks will not forgive me.  But the Carnival continues with my next post.
Continues...
