The temporary shelter facility in Sicily I blogged about yesterday, understandably has reached full capacity and there is no sign that the boat loads of illegal immigrants from Africa show any respite in their arrival.
In the meantime, Franco Frattini, Italy’s Minister for foreign affairs is told, through an anonymous source, that the Union of Europe has said “No” to using Sicily as a clearing house... the immigrants are to remain in Italy. So the problems of the onslaught of illegal immigrants is Italy’s problem and no one else’s? No wonder the said Minister commented in an interview by Affaritaliani.it, that this was a cowardly way for Europe to behave. Besides, he considered that being told how Europe stands in all this through anonymous sources from the EU is the worst way of presenting the face of Europe.
Meanwhile back at the temporary shelter, riots are flaring up for the possession of the limited food that has been made available. On this score, the EU are saying they will meet on the 26th of March- a whole month from now! People need to be fed now, today, not in a month’s time.
Obviously the EU parliament has plenty of time to divulge in meetings to take down the Crucifix from our walls, but they can’t find the time for a meeting to solve an emergency as this, abandoning Italy all on her own to face a problem that has epoch-making dimensions and will eventually shakeup the whole of Europe.
