488. Berlusconi and Putin exchanging crates of Vodka and Lambrusco over the European skies

Twenty bottles of the best Russian Vodka and bottles of Lambrusco from Italy’s best vineyards have been crossing the European skies recently as has been revealed to a group of Berlusconi’s associates at a private meeting yesterday.

Obviously the meeting was not so private because even before the night was over, the news was out on tape. Silvio Berlusconi, leader of a neo-winning coalition in the last elections in Italy and Vladimir Putin, the Russian autocrat not only have been exchanging gifts of a “spiritual” nature but also, as Berlusconi described it, the sweetest of letters. All this on the occasion of Berlusconi’s 86th birthday 29th September.

Putin wrote that Berlusconi was the first of the five friends he has. (How lucky he is… I doubt I can account for so many myself!) But yes, I can well believe there are strong ties of mutual adoration between the two leaders since they are comrades of the celebrated Bunga Bunga parties that Berlusconi used to hold. When you have shared such delights as those parties offered, they tie you together in an everlasting bond of friendship but above all loyalty- one would never, no not ever, betray the other.

The moralists may say what they want but I’m all in favour of personal ties and bonds being made irrespective of the methods used. Therefore, I’m all in favour of crates of spiritual goodwill being sent across the European skies.

Sending his prestigious vodka, Putin has shown he is not simply the aggressor he undoubtedly is but a human being after all, and of course sending the equally prestigious red, sweet, sparkling wine from Italian vineyards denotes not just the irrationality but, and here I refer to his affections, the boundless generosity of the Italian Media Tycoon.

They are mates, they are pals, blood brothers, I would say and sending crates of Vodka and Lambrusco across the European skies is a lesson from which other leaders could learn, an example to be copied. There is no merit in sending missiles and bombs instead as is the case at the moment.

I am truly grateful to Silvio Berlusconi for being the friend he is to Putin and not being afraid to say so because Italy is well under pressure by NATO, Berlin and the US to continue sending arms to Ukraine that sooner or later will lead to a nuclear response from Russia. This means that the first to be blown up will be the NATO US air force in Aviano, just next door to my village. The other cities, if not simultaneous, to be blown up because they host NATO bases will be Vicenza, then Naples… which is just next door to Pompei, Rome and the Vatican. No comfort is it knowing that at the same time major cities in Russia will be blown up too since the damage will have been done, Europe will be destroyed. But maybe that is what some major powers would like to see- the destruction of Europe, or at least its re-dimension.

The new government about to be implemented won the election by a landslide majority from voters hoping that having a more flexible attitude there will be a chance for a cease fire and the end of the war in Ukraine. They had hopes arms would stop crossing those European skies because Italy did not ask to be in this war, nor does it want to stay as those voters have so wisely shown. Therefore, no one should deplore the crates of Vodka and Lambrusco crossing those  splendid European skies, nor that Berlusconi is a friend of Putin - there can be no harm in that at all.
