486. Book Launching - without champagne - But…!

"Meeting with the Authors" Event - Sarmede (Treviso) - Eva Ulian signing copies of
"Cattiverie di una Mantide Religiosa"

I had never launched a book before and I just didn't know what to expect. So, I was
more than grateful when a relative of mine took the reins in hand and organized the event.

It so happened that at the same time another writer from the area, Alfeo Zanette, also had a book to launch. His book dealt with letters from the Russian front, where the Italian soldiers were sent, and as you can imagine there was anguish and suffering.

Then the municipality of Sarmede was mobilized, to be more precise the Pro-Loco, which has a beautiful theater for such events.

As fate would have it, at this same period a certain Mauro Corona had written his latest book, “Four Seasons to Live”. And why not invite him too and let's have a threesome? Well, I thought, he's not quite on our level. Alfeo and I were more or less beginners, debutants one might say, who, compared to Corona and his dozen or more novels, not counting his children's fairy tales and various collections of short stories, the thing seemed a bit unbalanced.

Anyway, let's invite him, at worst he can only say no. But Mauro Corona said yes - on the condition that there is a nice bottle of ... no, not the bubbly kind but the "Amarone" a most expensive bitter tasting ruby wine. My relative said to leave it to him, he would arrange it all, even though I, being a teetotaler, was not too enthusiastic.

Face to face with a bottle of "Amarone" ... You can toast even without champagne!
