399. Christmas at Green is... Sarmede


It’s that time of the year again, Christmas- and although in my mind, some Christmases are more joyous than others, I do not remember any Christmas at all that was steeped in complete misery. This is not because there have been no sad, tragic, desolate moments in my life but not one of them seem to be associated with Christmas.

In my life, like everyone, I too have touched the depths of wretchedness, I too have known a world inimical and hostile and yet Christmas would as if by magic, dispel such bleak moments and envelop my being with a sense of warmth, hope and welcoming... Only Christmas had, has such power to do that.

And it breaks my heart to think there are people out there who want to take the Christ out of Christmas, throw out of the window Our Lady, Joseph, ox, ass, the whole darned family and do away with them all because they may cause “offence” to non-believers. Well... do they have anything better to offer...
