398. Syria: Chemical Attacks, Cross-Fire on Twitter

I’ve noticed there has been quite a bit of fire
crossed on Twitter over Syria recently.
A nun, Mother Agnes Mariam of the Cross has been accused of being a
supporter of the Regime and spreading propaganda against the Rebel Forces.
I myself have posted pictures of children killed by chemical
attacks supposedly made by the Regime but I felt quite uneasy in doing so, not
because I was not dismayed by such happenings but because I too among other
people had serious doubts- what if this horrific event had been enacted by the
Rebels in order to gain sympathy and support on a world scale?
My research can only go so far, and let us not disdain
such attempts since it is normal people like bloggers who often are more likely
to bring the truth to light. Mother Agnes Mariam is someone that has gone into
much depth in her research and her findings are more reliable than military
ones which because of their affiliation cannot be relied upon to be impartial.
“I cannot incriminate, and I won’t incriminate,” she said. But she
suspects that some of the children in the videos had been abducted by fighters
from Al Qaeda in Alawite villages more than 150 miles away — a view also voiced
by Syrian officials. (Font: NY Times on line)
"Some families of the abducted people contacted us to claim that
some of the children presented as victims of chemical attacks are in reality
their own children," says Mother Agnes. (Font: BBC News on line)
Mother Agnes has submitted her findings to officials
of the United Nations Human Rights Council in a 50-page report .
Nuns may have their faults but placed in difficult
situations they are all a bit like Mother Teresa- They won’t be conned.
