339. How to be a Saint: Recipe
| Celebrating All Saints |
On Twitter, they call me “The Saint Lady”.
That’s because I post a tweet on the Saint of the Day. So on the Feast of All
Saints, which is today, I thought it would be better if I found out how to become a saint,
in other words, manage to get through the pearly gates when the time comes.

But why should anyone bother trying to get
to heaven, if that means nothing to you? Maybe I should have paraphrased that
so as to make sense to those whose palette has no taste of the religious: why
should we bother to be happy?

The quest for happiness is guaranteed by
the American Constitution as the right of every individual. Rightly so, because
no one enjoys being miserable, surely. You can search as much as you like for
happiness in sex, power, wealth, beauty, fame, drugs or whatever- you’ll never find it because such
elements care nothing for you and give you nothing for your pains except a
temporary cheap thrill that leaves you emptier than ever before. Happiness is
loving and being loved, not for a week, a month, a year, but eternally and
unconditionally.
| The Celebrant Fr Andrea Dal Cin |
One of our local priests, born and bred in
our village suggested, who better than Jesus Himself to give us the recipe to
find that happiness, which consists mainly in two things:
v
Not having something
v
Doing something

Ingredients and Method
Not being proud will give us the kingdom of
heaven.
If we are not arrogant, we will possess the
land.
If we are sad for the loss of someone, we
will be comforted.
If we do without food, drink, substance for the sake of justice, we shall have our
fill.
If we are compassionate, we shall obtain
mercy.
If we have no malice, we shall see God.
If we work for peace we shall be called the
children of God.
If we endure the pains of being tortured,
killed or scoffed at because of our faith, ours is the kingdom of heaven.
