There are many
moments from the past where man’s brutality can be seen at its worst,
so much so that we wish to forget- but dare not- unfortunately 9/11 has had to be inserted into
that infamous list.
We must not
forget so as to prevent those events happening again.
We must not
forget the Holocaust, we
must not forget the Tiananmen Massacre and all those revolutions that have ended in blood baths simply because
people wanted freedom, in most cases, freedom from a tyrant.
We must not forget... but
maybe we should also remember too, that, without giving up our own values and
beliefs, we should all nevertheless open ourselves up to the fact that others
have values and beliefs too which may have no bearing with our own, but which
even so, are held as dear to them, as ours are to us.
We should ALL remember this,
myself included... maybe this stepping into others shoes is the only weapon,
we ordinary people have to stave off the hand of brutality.
The 9/11 attack and all
other terrorist attacks, India, Britain, that have killed and caused suffering
to innocent people are different from the attacks against regimes. The 9/11 terrorists are not a regime and
therefore alongside other such terrorists, they should be publically
condemned by every individual on earth with every force within his/her
body.
Yet how remarkably silent against
such terrorists have their own people from whence these fanatical terrorists
derive, have been. The silence from that
part of the world, from the world of their faiths, makes one more diffident against
those countries; those people, those values, those beliefs. When such people are silent it means approval
and not condemnation of such terroristic attacks.
It is time these people showed their
good will, set themselves apart from terrorism, if this in effect
is the case, and stand up for their faith which as claimed is not one of
violence, brutality but of love.
If they don’t, how can
anyone believe that deep down in their hearts they are not harbouring the viper
of terrorism itself? Because otherwise,
frankly, their silence leads me to think this is what they want me to believe.
