234. God’s Love is not Merchandise
How often have you heard in some bar-room-joke atmosphere someone say “I’m going to enjoy all the goodies life puts on a plate for me, and at the last moment repent, so I will go to heaven all the same.”
Right?
No, wrong.
Apart from the fact that you don’t know when your ticket for the after life is called out, it stands to common sense that if you have never wanted something all your life, but on the contrary have revelled in just the opposite, you can’t suddenly; at the last minute, desire what you have never wanted point blank- because God’s love is not for sale, something you can buy, God’s love is not merchandise: you have to earn it and to do that, you need a change of heart.
That basically is the long and the short of it. God may be infinite love, may give infinite love, but if you don’t want it, don’t desire it, there is no way this love will be forced upon you and invade that free will mankind has opted for at the birth of creation. For that is why we humans became mortals, because we wanted a will of our own, to choose or not to choose the love of God- and at this point, one thing becomes clear, we do really have to choose, we can’t have it both ways.
Yet how does one choose the love of God if you don’t feel the least bit drawn to it? One simple way lies in this answer: “Keep My commandments,” which Jesus summed up in two: “Love God with all your heart and your neighbour as yourself.” And sooner or later you too will desire to love God, for God will not be unheeding, He will have made His home in you at the moment of your choice whence you have opened the door of your heart.
And to think because of this Christians are being persecuted, imprisoned, burned to death, tortured and hanged.
| "They Will Rise Again" is the word on the Chapel wall- including those who have been killed willfully by others- What will their executors say to them then? |
Little does the world understand that God is only one- mine and yours, God remains the only and same one. So those that you hang, those that you imprison, those that you torture and burn to death are children of the same God who made you- there is no other God, no matter what anyone cares to call Him.
Only yesterday someone mentioned to me that the “Chinese are ferocious with Christians.” You can interpret that as you wish, however the word “civilization” has to be struck off from the list of adjectives used to describe such happenings. But it is not just the Chinese that get full marks for viciousness against Christians, the Pakistani are not doing too badly either- they just burn them in their Churches and if they are not able to get rid of some Christians they want out of the way, they sentence them to capital punishment by hanging. This has happened to a mother of five children working in the fields, Asia Bibi who was sentenced to hang recently on a charge of blaspheme by the court of Sheikhupura, near Lahore in Pakistan.
One thing the authorities of Sheikhupura do not appreciate is that no one has ever killed another human being because they have blasphemed against Jesus Christ whom we know is to be God. And how many times has Christ been crucified over and over by other religions and yet Christians have never harmed a hair on the head of anyone. Anyone who kills another human being goes against one fundamental and universally accepted commandment “Thou shalt not kill.” There is no just killing, no killing can be justified. The taking of another life is murder and no God, no matter what you call Him will let you get away with that when it is your turn to be judged.
