182. Judges Take the Italian Parliament for a Ride...

Italy, My Italy - North view from my house

Before I go into explaining how the Judges took the Italian parliament for a ride, I should like to make a comment on what Silvio Berlusconi said yesterday at one of his rallies- that all the foreign press was dead against him! Dear Prime Minister Belusconi, that is not true, just heard from “Striscia La Notizia” (an Italian satirical programme) that not all the press is against you- “Playboy” is not.

Having got that off my chest let me get down to the knitty gritty.

The Italian Constitutional Court (CSM Corte Costituzionale) is there to validate or invalidate a decree of law pronounced by parliament (regarding the Constitutional Court). In the formation of a law as in this case, whether to allow or not, temporary suspension of court proceedings against the four highest positions in the country; parliament take instructions from the CSM, formulate the law, present it to the CSM which should approve it or make amendments, then the law becomes effective. But such was not the case in this instance. When the CSM made its amendment in the last presentation, it did not say the law required a change in the constitution as they are now, so saying.

The Press, 72% left wing and foreign waiting to take the lamb to the slaughter house

One should also note that Parliamentary immunity (suspension until end term office) was common practise here in Italy until the late 1980s when the Left Wing party decided to get rid of the Socialist, Bettino Craxi, another charismatic leader who was led to the slaughter house by the Left, needlessly, and therefore got the CSM to undo the law so as to put Craxi on trial. We have such nice people here in Italy, don’t we? Including accommodating judges much open to the plight of those poor left wingers who because they could not get into power then, just as they can’t now, destroyed the only great person that Italy had the fortune to have had then, Craxi.

And of course, history repeats itself. Just a day or two before the CSM pronounced that the presentation of such a law was illegitimate, the Italian Magistrature had come to a verdict on Berlusconi’s presumed illicit doings in the Mondadori case and sentenced to pay the highest figure ever known in this country, to Di Benedetti, as compensation. And isn’t it just convenient that after twenty years, the Magistrature had come to a decision right now when the verdict on the temporary immunity was about to be given? So now, instead of going off to Messina to build houses for those who had lost them in the landslide at the beginning of October, or to Palermo to give them a shaking up with the rubbish, or a thousand other things that this particular Prime Minister has to do for Italy, he has to go to court and defend himself against another absurd sentence, inspired by the Left Wing on a case of over 20 years ago!

Do you believe in coincidences? I certainly do, the ones on purpose, created for the opportune moment by the Left Wing. I am not paranoid, it’s just that such coincidences have happened so often in the past, I know when, how, and from whom to expect them. The Left Wing will just not allow a great man work- they didn’t for Craxi, they won’t for Berlusconi. But Berlusconi is a notch above, having learnt from previous such event- besides he has a support on the heel of his shoes which makes him heads and shoulders above the rest!

There’s a hue and cry that Right Wing is getting too much power and a danger that it will become absolute power- some UK papers have even said, fascist power- of course it’s all poppycock! The Italian President has his roots in Communism, which is fine, but you can’t expect him to appoint judges against his nature. A significant part of the Judges, the Courts, the Magistrates, are decidedly political and they should not be, they should be completely independent but we have had more than proof in this last week this is not the case. The foreign press, in complicity with the Italian press which is 72% Left Wing are certainly going to stick a few more nails in Berlusconi’s political coffin that’s because they just want Italy to get back down on her knees, in the mire, as it was through the six years of two Left Wing legislations in this country, when Italy, the economy, reforms, everything had come to a full stop. I remember those days- it was stifling to live in Italy! So forgive me if I shall fight you tooth and nail on this! Apart from the fact, that because all this is happening on my skin, I know what I’m talking about.

Why is Silvio Berlusconi so hated by the Italian Left Wing? Simple really- the Italian education system which stinks to high heaven is all in the hands of the Left. There are few universities that have scathed through so as to not be tightened in that left wing clamp. They have kicked religion out of the back door with great force in all our schools. They have inundated all public places with their own idle workers, including those who work in the administration of courts and justice- that’s why it takes a judge twenty years to come to a verdict! OK, you may say, could they have done so much harm in just six or seven years of power? Up to the time Berlusconi took over in 1994 the country was ruled by the Christian Democrats and from the 70s, in coalition with the Socialist Party, but all public employment places were allotted to each party in accordance to their vote percentage. The Left Wing party had always a high percentage of all places available in schools, universities, hospitals, post offices, law courts, etc. Strangely enough, few Right Wing employees ended up in the above places as they preferred the private sector or even invent their own employment.

With the arrival of Berlusconi all these places are being threatened with reforms and upheavals- To most of these people it would actually mean having to work! The judicial system may even have to take a shaking up and get their act together. That’s why they, as Newsweek so nicely put it, want to dump him and that’s why Berlusconi should not be dumped!!! So, foreign press go softly before you tread, for you may tread on someone’s corns, mine.
