180. Introducing Marguerite Peeters
Matt Warner of Fallible Blogma has given rise to the initiative of making October a “Support a Catholic Speaker Month” and I am honoured to present Marguerite Peeters Director General Institute for Intercultural Dialogue Dynamics
In an interview given to Zenit in Rome 2008, on the subject of cultural and political revolution: Peeters discusses post modernity in the West and her analysis of the role of Christianity in inspiring a new movement of culture since:
“Under modernity, rationalism subverted love: We thought we could build a global order with the sole power of our reason and of science.”
in 2008 Marguerite Peeters spoke at the conference held at Ave Maria School of Law and Columbus School of Law of the Catholic University of America to celebrate Pope John Paul II's 1988 Apostolic Letter, Mulieris Dignitatem (MD) on the dignity and vocation of women.
Peeters said that cultural trends worldwide over the past two decades have been detrimental both to women and to humanity in general. Decrying the “quiet deconstruction” of the family and the roles within it, Peeters noted that language itself has morphed to reflect the gradual erosion of traditional societal norms.
“Instead of spouse, we now speak of ‘partners,’” said Peeters. “Instead of family, we now substitute ‘family in all its forms.’” Instead of freedom, she argued, the cultural revolution has instead brought the fragmentation of society, with concurrent rises in the incidence of divorce, depression and suicide.
