503. Zelensky – Trump tête-à-tête
What happened at the Vatican on Saturday morning may not have been a
miracle – but it was certainly a change of heart.
The last time we saw Trump and Zelensky face to face was a few weeks ago
under the glare of the world’s cameras inflicting insults on one another and
two hearts full of spitefulness.
What we saw at the Vatican were two secluded men sitting opposite each
other in what seemed almost affection for one another, protected by the
atmosphere of the confessional. No glares from cameras, no spite oozing out,
both hearts seem to emanate genuine solidarity as the whole of the people
assembled at Pope Francis’ funeral seemed to evoke.
However, in order to call the events of this day a miracle, we need a
change of heart from Putin. Will he join the rest of us in harmony and liberate
himself of a heart full of spite? If he does, then such will be a miracle and
Francis will have achieved his mission on earth.
Whatever the outcome of these events, one has now turned out to be an
historical feature - Rome had become the center of the world where, under the
auspicious spirit of Francis, there was only room for solidarity and peace.
