464. Old and Decrepit 2020, Do Come In.
Usually, old and decrepit is what we denote to the
year just gone- but applying it to the New Year, isn’t that a bit unfair? With
the sound of well-wishers’ “Happy New Year” still ringing in our ears, with the
festivities still in full swing, here I go, and place a wet blanket over
everything. Why am I such a spoil sport?
Because humanity has gone to pots. The last year 2019,
was horrendous. We’ve nothing to be proud about. We’ve elected leaders that now
make us vomit; we couldn’t care a dam if the world goes up in flames, crumples
up, divides, or we end up poisoning each other by ill-treating the environment.
We consider the world, nature, a cess hole and all who inhabit it, only fit for
the dustbin.
And then we wish each other “HAPPY NEW YEAR!” Do me a
favour!
To celebrate the New Year, or rather to hide the iniquities,
we explode artificial sparkles of all sorts, so as to make us artificially
bouncy and pretend to be joyful at all costs. But if the truth is to be told, it
is that we no longer know or can be naturally happy, sincerely joyful. We are
totally incapable of sparkling of our own light, we have to have fireworks to
makes us go oh, ah, wow! Isn’t that so? Because if it isn’t, why do we do it?
Not to mention the money that’s simply thrown away,
blown up in the air, burnt to cinders; because in effect that’s what happens every
time we explode a firework, no matter how small, it’s still good money gone to
pots. What is even more laughable is that nations go out of their way to
compete with one another ferociously as to who can create more sparkles in the
sky, who can throw away more money than another, and here we are not talking
about pennies and cents but millions, just so these petty human beings can be
artificially entertained and be able to sigh ah, oh, wow!
Surely there’s a need for a change of heart somewhere?
Surely, we human beings have not touched rock bottom so much that we care not
for another human being, and even less for the world we live in? Surely, we can
find within ourselves still a spark of humanity, and instead of literally
burning money, use it to produce work so as to feed, house and clothe those in
need; instead of placing them in rubber dinghies to be devoured by the oceans
or dumping them off on vulnerable small, countries like Malta, Greece and
especially, Italy!
Because this is in effect, what we human beings do;
and when we look at ourselves in the mirror we show no remorse, let alone shame.
