447. Dreaming of the Pope in a Paperless Office
Back in the last century, to us, the world of a paperless
office sounded unreal, something out of a science fiction book.
Last night, however, I had a dream, so as not to call it a
nightmare, where Pope Francis came to visit and he was heading right for my
house. He was so nice, smiling and friendly as usual; then he asked for a piece
of paper to place his autograph and a dedication. I thought a card would be
much better for such a unique occasion and as I knew I had quite a lot, I
promptly went to my desk to get one, but when I took them out, they were all
old cards, signed by other people, search as I might, I simply couldn’t find a
blank card at all. I was at my wits end.
Meanwhile Pope Francis was socializing and mingling with the
people who had gathered around to see him and I knew he would soon be gone, so
I desperately went to the printer to get a blank sheet of typing paper- guess
what? There were none! All the papers were old ones, carbon copies or hand
written. I burst into tears and the Pope came to console me asking me what was
wrong. I told him I just couldn’t find a shred of anything for him to write on.
He looked sad but not surprised and sympathetically said “God has abandoned
you.” Being abandoned by God? I was mortified. As he turned to go, he murmured,
“But that’s no wonder, so was Jesus.”
