408. A Priest: A Messenger of Jesus

Funeral of Father Mario- our PP
For Father Mario, every liturgy was a festivity. Thinking about it, it really is a festivity because there is nothing more beautiful in the world than to contemplate eternity in the face of Jesus. Everything else in the world, crumbles, consumes, is transitory, and cannot be grasped.

As he said in our interview for InfoS@rmede  (our parish magazine) how pleasing it is to remember the happy times, and how with each festivity worthy of the name, he wanted to fix in time, document it through technological means, recall it and contemplate it; this too for him, was the liturgy.

Father Mario was not a great orator, however, even more importantly, he had the gift for doing good. For him, the word "no" did not exist. For him all things which to me, to us, seemed incredible, were to Father Mario possible; the way he would not allow his illness to stand in his way to doing good is just one of these examples. For him, with Jesus, there were no failures or losers, only winners. And therefore attracted young people to become involved in the church, to be part of various parish groups or become an altar boy, which he considered to be a singular vocation .

He was not a great conversationalist, but he instinctively understood what people were saying. Allow me to use a personal example. While taking us on coach trips he usually asked someone choose a song, on one occasion I asked for "who I'm going to find..." Even though my expression in Italian was not one of the best  he understood what I meant, that is, "I'll see you one day" which is the title of a popular Italian hymn to Our Lady.  Even if on occasions we would argue, he always understood, and he would always support you, encourage you; for him, you were always the most important person in the world - just as each one of us are for Jesus.

Through Father Mario, we have also been able to live this reality too. Yes, because for Father Mario, his most compelling joy was to contemplate the face of Jesus and therefore in all he did, he always tried to act with enthusiasm as His Messenger.
