242. Pakistan- The Price to Pay for Doing Good: 27 Gun Shots in Your Back

This is precisely what happened to Punjab Governor Salman Taseer, 65, yesterday.  The policeman, one of Taseer’s body guards said he had killed the Governor for his campaign to repeal Pakistani’s blaspheme law.

Taseer visited  in jail a mother of five children working in the fields, Asia Bibi who was sentenced to hang recently on a charge of blaspheme by the court of  Sheikhupura, near Lahore in Pakistan and persuaded the Pakistani ‘s President Asif Ali Zardari, who himself had suffered the assassination of his own wife former Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto, to use clemency.

It is an extremely sad day when the good people do in Pakistan is so dreadfully wiped out by 27 cowardly gunshots in the back.  But as I have previously said in my blogs, over and over again, there will come a time when even these assassins meet their death.

Over the centuries God and His prophets have been clear about one thing and one thing alone “Thou shalt not kill”.  So when these assassins meet their Prophet after death, undoubtedly, their Prophet will say why did you disobey God’s commandment?  Why did you kill your brother?  Why did you kill my son? The taking of another life is not negotiable by God or any Prophet and neither is the punishment that ensues.

And while we are on the subject of blasphemy- such is for God to punish, not man.  If we had blasphemy laws in my country what would happen to all those extremists who insist we take down the Crucifix from our walls because Christ is an offence to humanity?  To hang, draw and quarter such blasphemists  simply would just not be good enough.
