143. Unwanted Human Carnage

There was an email Post Script for today’s Journalist Daniele Protti, Reader of RAI Radio 3 “Prima Pagina” (First Page) regarding a boatful of unwanted human beings trying to land which the Maltese have sent back into the sea- next stop- Italy. The journalist explained that this piece of news had not found space in any of the headlines today, front, back or middle except for the Northern Italian newspaper “Padania”.

Malta became independent from Britain in 1964 and is a small island in the Mediterranean sea between Tunisia, in the African continent and Sicily, an Italian island at the bottom of the boot of Italy. As one can note the strategic position of Malta makes it a temptation for these desperate people from the African continent to face the sea into Italy rather than starvation. And they do come, they come in boats full, in their thousands, hordes of desperate unwanted human carnage.

I’m just waiting now, for some foreign newspaper to attack Italy, its government and particularly its Premier Silvio Berlusconi that he, we, are a bunch of racist fascists, as has been done in the past, even as early as a couple of weeks ago. I should very much like to see if even one of these human beings try to enter any other country illegally what would happen. At least in Italy they are taken to a “Campo di Accoglienza” (Reception Centre) and not locked up in jail or kicked back down the rocks into the sea as was reported to have been done in Spain. Which incidentally I have a deep respect for the Spanish Royal Family and ought to be admired for having to put up with the government that they have.

The problem of unwanted human beings is not the problem of Malta or Italy or of any one country alone. It is a worldwide concern and anyone who shrugs their shoulders, turns the other way and say it isn’t, as some Rwanda Leaders claim, blasphemes against their own human condition and that of their Creator.
