123. Twitter, Facebook and Yuwie- All About People?

Italian Village Parade
I belong to all these three social networks and can safely say they all three have a purpose which differs from the others while the common denominator is, of course, only one- people.
Not quite sure how it works but I do know that the greater number of people that join these services the greater the income is for the Provider.  So fact number one, each of these services is there to make money.  Hence I smile to myself when I hear such philanthropic words as, “Find your long lost daughter, husband, lover...” Facebook doesn’t actually put this way but...  With Yuwie one of my biggest mistakes was to put an attractive picture of myself of ten years ago because that draws seducers like bees to honey.  My experience as a female is that hordes of males and even women come to entice you in all ways possible to click, it doesn’t matter where- just click- yes indeed because Yuiwe pays you for every click you do.  And Twitter, well Twitter is different, they are thinking of asking you to pay them for using their service.  Now there’s a nice combination, don’t you think?

Those in charge of these services, before they decide to delete my account, ought to know that I only blog on behind the scenes of events, what you don’t see in the papers, so it is quite useless my saying how wonderful all these networks are- no one will believe me!  Secondly they should hear me out and read to the end, because I usually save that little bit of unexpectedness for the bottom line.

But let me return to what separates and unite these services.  Fair enough I made a bit of fun about Facebook’s mission in trying to find daughters, husbands and lovers (who probably don’t want to be found anyway), but trying to find your old schoolmate or friends and acquaintances you have long lost touch of is quite neat.  Personally, I found a guy who went to the same church and school as I did back in the 60s and is now a university lecturer and writer.  He is a few years younger than I am but we both knew some of the teachers that taught us and Parish Priests.  I also found that a close relative of mine whom I had lost contact was on Facebook.  Presently I am trying to contact all those who have my surname as the odds that they all started off from this area of Italy, and consequently are related to one another so far has proved high.  Then Facebook abounds with writers and poets, a lot of whom I know since we are in the same writers’ groups.  But that’s not all, Facebook can be as big or as reserved as you want it because you choose who to be friends with.  I’m friends with everyone who asks and I’ve got quite an assortment on my list from professors and writers to youngsters who can hardly spell and I get invited to exclusive readings to rave up binges.

Yuiew on the other hand is basically there for you to make money and they pay you for you to click to your heart’s content.  The interaction there, is not meant to be terribly binding, but fun.  It’s fun to see who your next friend is and you get lots of those requests, more so than Facebook which is still a morale booster, even though you are fully aware money is what makes the clicks go round.  However, I consider Yuwie one of MY great conquest because people know I don’t click for money- in effect as I don’t have an account anywhere on line- they can’t even pay me.  Another feature I like about Yuwie is it is made easy to find out anyone’s birthday at any given time, so that’s my opportunity to click with sincerity which seems to be much appreciated.

Relationships is the basis of Twitter.   Here you have people telling you at various intervals during the day what they are up to or thinking.  With Twitter you are entering into the private world of people’s intimacy- rather extraordinary because even in “real” life you could not achieve that closeness with others that you can on Twitter, because in real life people are not available to you 24 hours around the clock.  Of course, people don’t tell you exactly what they do, like they’ve just gone to the toilet- though even that has been written about- but what they do tell you certainly allows you to peep into their personality and explore it.  No harm done, and no one is afraid of people peeping in because they are Chrystal clear sincere.  It is only those who have something to hide, whose waters are murky that are afraid of others sussing them out.

However, not all Twitters are there only to connect with others.  There are those whom I call the professionals who will inundate the twitter page updates with their brand of shoe polish or baby pampers.  There are those whose mission is seen as giving snippets of news, tech advice, create your own ezine, scientific research results and all kinds of other useful goodies.  This is all very handy because you don’t have to wade through a load of writing to come to the kernel of the situation since an update has to be made within the context of 140 characters.

As can be seen all these network services have different aims in mind for users.  The important thing is knowing yourself what you are looking for in such networking and then find out which fills that need- hoping that this write up has been a guide, for people, without guile.
