Now I know why Italy has one of the least growing population in the world- because Italians not only watch Sylvester Stallone in Rocky but they imitate him. I got that juicy piece of information from Eddie Murphy’s U-tube – Raw (Italians and Rocky).

Another local bar- old and young mix together-
Italian bars have a family flavour ("Osteria" Sarmede) |
Eddie Murphy is funny and I adore the guy but when he comes up with a “fuck” word every other two I’m beginning to think he’s getting short of vocabulary- but that’s not the case. Comparing it to the Italian equivalent of “cazzo” I realize his U-tube is not far off the mark... that’s what is popularly termed as “bar language”. And it’s true, if you mix with the seven or ten percent of the loud, rude, gutter-crawling population existing in every country and society, you will find that kind of language and equally suitable behaviour. That’s why I said at the beginning, Italy is one of the lowest growth rate baby producing countries because they don’t have that many Rockies who perform according to U-tube standards in bed- cazzo or no cazzo- which incidentally is not as “offensive” as the English equivalent, because in Italian it only means “dick”, and we know some people are legitimately called that, because Dick is also the abbreviation for Richard.

A bar in the next village- As you can see-
there's no dickying around here either (Bar Buco- Cappella Maggiore) |
Having enlightened everyone on certain vocabulary usage maybe I should dedicate some thought on that small percentage of gutter-crawling population which exists everywhere.

| One way to measure the civilizationof a country is by its attitude to the aged (Bar "Renzo" Cappella Maggiore) |
The level of such percentage depends on how a country manages to bring up its youth. If at the end of the day our schools produce hordes of young people who express themselves in one syllable words and their only intent in life is to get shagged, get drugged, and generally in some way or other get pissed right out of their minds... then people should stand back and say “where the hell have we gone wrong?”

a bit of culture never hurt anyone and it should be
all around us (Restaurant "Renzo" Cappella Maggiore) |
It’s not just schools, where it’s at. Though some real effort should be made in getting kids involved in all the amazing wonders that our world holds only for the searching, but the greatest responsibility lies with parents and especially mothers who, because they had better things to do have left their own offsprings to their own devices.

| Mum is essential to the balance of a child's sanity |
Perhaps women no longer consider motherhood as a vocation. Perhaps being a mother is looked upon as a burden, a chore, even a curse rather than a blessing. Maybe mothers should take a look with what dedication a bitch or a she cat cares for her young ones to learn the everlasting lesson that motherhood is not something you can relegate to second place.

This children's playground is in my village square,
surrounded by three bars |
Having said that, have we looked at ourselves- mothers, fathers, teachers or not- to see why society is capable of producing a not indifferent percentage of scum?
 |
| each one of us should set an example of what society is about |
Take a walk on the wild side- as the song goes... What’s out there in our towns and cities, especially at night? How many places can you identify in your own town that gives your kids the opportunity to develop their wild side? How many places entice them to fall in love with the world around them instead? How many movies give that same opportunity? And the same excuse turns up again and again- Ah but we only give what the customer wants... More likely- it is not what the kids want that is being offered, but what the kids are made to want- after all- evil has always been more attractive.
 |
People gathering around the village square
(cenotaph in background) for a concert |
So what? Why should anyone interfere if others want to be evil? Because evil does not stop at the destruction of the self but of others too. However, a healthier reason is because it is in everyone’s birthright to be given the opportunity to love and be loved and one should interfere when someone tries to deprive another of that birthright.

Our places of entertainment should be wholesome
(Restaurant "Renzo" Cappella Maggiore) |
It is obvious that each one of us is called to do our little bit in keeping the level of scum in our society as low as possible. What examples do we give? Whilst many cities do whatever they can to create scum, some villages, in their unpretentious atmosphere of homeliness endeavour to keep their youth wholesome.

| Ice-cream- Bar Buco- Cappella Maggiore |
A city life youth may sneer at his village counterpart for dancing in the square, sitting on a wall, the church steps or park bench in the deepest hours of night; talking, chatting, sharing confidences, eating ice-cream or drinking hot chocolate. But this youngster has a much greater chance of seeing the dawn of the day after, with his own eyes, than his city peer ever will.
